Insulated Food Jars

An insulated food jar allows you to pack hot or cold lunches for school or work.  They're great for sending leftovers too!

Insulated Food Container

We stock a variety of different insulated food containers for kids and adults, in varying sizes - there's something for everyone.  Some ideas for packing in your food jar are pasta, meatballs, chicken nuggets, curry and rice, stews, as well as cold options like yoghurt and fruit or cold pasta salad.  The options are endless!

How to Use Insulated Food Jars

For the full run-down on using insulated containers, read our blog post here.

For young children, look for a jar with a quick-release or vertical-opening lid rather than a twist lid. The Adventure Snacks Insulated Food Jar 250ml opens vertically with no twisting, and customer reviews confirm kids as young as 4 can open and close it independently. The b.box Insulated Food Jar 335ml has large easy-grip handles designed to give small hands leverage, and the MontiiCo Mini 200ml has a silicone grip band fitted to the lid for the same reason.

The MontiiCo Insulated Food Jar 400ml has the longest stated heat retention in the range at up to 8 hours. The Yumbox Zuppa 414ml keeps food warm for 6–8 hours, and the Oasis Insulated Food Flask 480ml and Oasis Insulated Food Pod 470ml both hold heat for up to 7 hours and 6 hours respectively. Note: actual retention depends on preheating the jar with boiling water first and the type of food packed (soups retain heat longer than dry foods like nuggets).

For adult-sized portions, the largest capacity options are the Bentgo Stainless Steel Insulated Food Container at 560ml, the Ever Eco Insulated Food Jar 500ml, and the Oasis Insulated Food Pod 470ml, which is specifically described as suited to "bigger appetites such as teens or taking lunch to work." One reviewer notes the Bentgo's lid can be harder for younger children to open, making it better suited to adults or older kids.

Fit varies by jar size, so this is worth checking before buying. The Adventure Snacks 250ml, Oasis Mini 230ml, and MontiiCo Mini 200ml all fit inside a b.box Wholefoods lunchbox (the Adventure Snacks jar requires the sandwich tray to be removed first). By contrast, the larger Oasis Insulated Food Flask 300ml explicitly does not fit inside a b.box Wholefoods lunchbox.

For maximum cold retention, the Oasis Insulated Food Flask with Quick Release Lid (500ml) and Oasis Insulated Food Pod 470ml both hold cold food for up to 9 hours, while the Oasis Insulated Food Flask 480ml also lasts up to 9 hours cold. The Ecococoon Insulated Food Jar 400ml keeps cold food fresh for up to 8 hours. Pre-chilling the jar with iced water for 5–10 minutes before packing extends performance.

Several jars in the range include built-in utensils so you don't need to pack cutlery separately. The b.box Insulated Food Jar includes a spork that tucks into its bumper, the Yumbox Zuppa comes with a stainless steel spoon, the Ever Eco 500ml has a foldable spoon nested in the lid, and the Somewhere Co Mini Insulated Container has a detachable fork. The Oasis Insulated Food Flask 500ml has an integrated foldable spork built into the lid.

Both are hot-and-cold bento boxes combining an insulated thermos with separate compartments, but they differ in size and cooling method. The OmieBox V2 has a smaller 280ml thermos that stays warm for up to 6 hours, and relies on air insulation to keep the rest of the box cool. The OmieBox UP has a larger 340ml thermos (about 40% more capacity) but only stays warm for up to 4 hours, and includes a removable ice brick for the cold side plus a larger overall box designed to fit a full sandwich, making it better suited to bigger appetites like teens, while the V2's smaller thermos holds heat slightly longer.

Yes! the Somewhere Co Mini Insulated Container is available in licensed designs including Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Frozen, Spider-Man, Barbie, and Moana, with a 300ml capacity, double-wall insulation, and a detachable fork included.
